Even at the BS level, there are several choices in electives. I chose Fourier decomposition and Differential Equations as the elective types. (About eight classes beyond the required basics.) I chose those because of interest and applicability to the Electrical Engineering courses I was interested in. The graduate level math courses I took as a EE sophomore finally convinced me that I would need to actually learn to study. I passed. ('C's get degrees.) Complex Analysis is far simpler than it looks like it should be, and you learn cool stuff, like the arcsine(2).
